Almost $1 million in Federal Funding for a New Forensic Science Training Center
Our forensic science department has been awarded $965,000 in federal funding to support our ongoing work of establishing a training center for the forensic sciences. This funding will support our frontline research and education in forensic science, including DNA analysis, digital forensics, pattern analysis and toxicology.
This federal support helps facilitate our department and Maryland as the top place for forensic science education and training, springboarding our initiatives to create an equipment hub to share resources with other agencies and universities in our shared goal of delivering the best forensic investigations possible.

U.S. Representative Johnny Olszewski, Jr. was joined by Richard Worley, commissioner of the Baltimore Police Department, who spoke about the commitment we share toward the innovation of science and service to the community.

Rhys Williams
Assistant Professor in Forensic Science
Dr. Williams is a biological anthropologist at Loyola University Maryland, where he specializes in digital imaging and soil analysis within bioarchaeology and forensic anthropology. His research has grown to focus on the digitized analysis of discrete forensic evidence, soil profiling for burial site interpretation, and scholarly public engagement. Dr. Williams is currently developing new methods for the visualization and identification of animal evidence for rapid scene testing for the Animal Forensics Institute.
