Toolkits and Training for Animal Investigators
Animal crime investigators are constrained by resources and training available for investigating scenes of animal abuse. This ongoing project provides crime scene materials and training for these investigators at zero cost.
Our surveys of animal control officers and crime investigators have identified a gap in training and equipment needs. Currently, animal control training does not include forensic science training. Additionally, animal control agencies and shelters do not currently have evidence collection kits and associated training on their optimal usage.
The Animal Forensics Institute will be providing kits and training, free of charge, for collecting entomological evidence that can be critical in the investigation of animal cruelty cases. The first equipment delivery and workshop will come in November of 2026, with future deliveries and workshops being supported by ongoing funding of this project. Subsequent kit packages will explore evidence collection for blood and body fluids, photographic evidence, non-contact analysis, and other new techniques developed by the Animal Forensics Institute.
