Bespoke Laboratory Facilities for Animal Crime

We will establish a laboratory dedicated to the analysis of animal crime evidence, with full priority provided to animal DNA, necropsy, pattern, and trace evidence analysis. Currently, animal DNA is waitlisted over 12 months and sees high upcharge; we will cut this down to equal the timelines of priority human cases.
The Animal Forensics Institute currently undertakes consultancy, research and training in our existing forensic teaching space, limiting us from receiving the vast volumes of animal crime evidence being generated and collected every day. Our strategic goal is to establish a laboratory dedicated to animal crime investigations, including a suite for animal DNA evidence, pattern and trace evidence analysis, and especially forensic veterinary and necropsy investigations. Autopsies are fundamental to forensic medicine and determining cause of death in humans, but forensic necropsies are conducted far less frequently despite their value to animal crime investigations.
Expanding our facilities with a dedicated center for receiving and analyzing animal evidence, with space for hosting high-quality workshops and conducting frontline research, will transform animal crime investigations across the nation.
